Why we built Skip Budget

The subscription that wouldn’t die

Like a lot of people, I tried budgeting app after budgeting app. Most of them wanted my bank login first, then showed me what I’d spent after it was already gone. Helpful, in the way a smoke alarm is helpful once the toast is black.

They promised to show what was coming up, too. Not reliably. I cancelled a subscription two months ago, and those bank-linked apps still listed it as an upcoming charge, month after month, like a ghost that never got the memo.

I didn’t want an app that guessed. I wanted full control of my money: how much comes in, how much goes out, and no surprises.

Envelopes and a lot of squinting

So I tried envelope-budgeting apps. They were great at envelopes. They were not great at telling me where my money actually is, what I’m spending it on, or which of my cards paid for what. And if you don’t already speak fluent budget, good luck.

Most of them also skipped the basics I cared about: a reminder before a bill, a history I could look back on, reports that make sense, and the feeling that I was the one in charge.

So we built Skip

Skip Budget is the app I wanted back then, built with a lot of care. Anyone can learn budgeting as they go, and keep their bills, payments, loans and all their money in one place, with full privacy.

That’s why Skip never connects to your bank: your money, your rules. And because money is about more than bills, we added the fun parts too, like a habit tracker (hello, daily coffee) and a loans tracker that counts down to the day you’re debt free.
